Ocean Guardian at CIAF

On 14th July 2017, we visited CIAF in Cairns, QLD. CIAF is an exhibition of indigenous art culture. There were a lot of attractive experiences to enjoy like dances, performances, sculptures, paintings and art works.
The most striking piece of art for us was the Ocean Guardian sculpture made by Brian Robinson who is a celebrated indigenous artist and whose works are considered highly innovative. The Ocean Guardian is the name of the stingray sculpture which was carved in aluminium. It is modern art and represents the Great Barrier Reef in Torres Strait.
The Ocean Guardian was the most expensive work at CIAF and it cost AU$ 25,000. It is a wonderful piece of art. In our opinion it’s meant to show the mystery of sea creatures and their tough spirit. It reminds us of the strong connection between humans and nature.

  1. It was a very good experience, totally different than we have in Brazil. It’s wonderful to compare the traditions, lifestyle and human cultural evolution. It’s great to go outside the school and interact with Australians to test and improve my English.
