Hello! I’m Mahito. Today I’ll talk about my first weekend in Cairns. Last Saturday I had a BBQ with my friends. At first, we gathered at Cairns city bus station and went shopping to a supermarket. Australian groceries are bigger than Japanese. Especially, I was excited that most meats were huge. I found an interesting thing while we were shopping which was a free fruit corner. It is a box which is filled by some kinds of fruits: oranges, pears, and bananas. It is a project by the supermarket giving kids a chance to eat fresh fruit for free when they visit the supermarket. I thought it is a very nice idea. After that we bought the food and drinks, we went to the Lagoon. When we got there, a lot of people had already been enjoying their weekend.

We started our BBQ at a seaside BBQ spot. It was a very beautiful sky without a cloud and calm wind, so we were comfortable. There were a lot of things that I experienced for the first time during this BBQ. The first one is that I ate lamb meat for the first time in my life. It was a little smelly, but tasted good so I liked it. The second thing is that I also made new friends who are studying at CCEB. They joined in late, so I  I wasn’t sure whether I could talk with them or not, but they were friendly so I opened up to them.

After the BBQ, we went to a café. Then I heard that flat white is most popular coffee in Australia and New Zealand, therefore I tried it. To be honest, I didn’t see any differences between flat white and café latte, but I found out that it’s flat white is cool. We also enjoyed talking about various things. We got really excited talking about why we chose Cairns and CCEB. Everyone had different and interesting reasons. It was a great time.
