Compare Cairns with Medellin

For their weekly speaking assessment the students of Pre-Int B had to compare their countries/cities with Australia/Australian cities. They had to make a PowerPoint presentation including comparative and superlative adjectives (in bold). This is Hitomi and Simon’s presentation comparing Cairns with Medellin (Colombia).

SEASONS:

Cairns is hotter than Medellin. In Medellin we have the 4 seasons, while in Cairns we don’t have seasons. In Medellin it’s normal when you wake up to look out of your window and see a beautiful day, but suddenly 1 hour later it can start to rain. The weather in Medellin sometimes is so crazy. The nick name of Medellin is ‘’Eternal Spring’’.

BUILDINGS:

The buildings in Cairns are lower than Medellin. In Medellin the buildings are higher than Cairns buildings. In Cairns most of the population live in houses, while in Medellin is more normal for the population to live in apartments.

TRANSPORT:

The most famous and popular transport in Medellin is ‘’El Metro’’. ‘’El Metro’’ is a kind of train, but you can’t go to another city using this transport, you can only move around Medellin. In Medellin when you wanna go to the poor suburbs,  you can go by a cable car.

The most popular transport in Cairns are bicycles and the train, but unlike Medellin trains, in Cairns you can use trains to go to other cities.

LANDSCAPES:

Medellin is located at a higher altitude than Cairns. For this reason in Medellin you can’t see the ocean and the nearest beach is located 12 hours by car.

FOOD:

In Medellin one of the most famous Colombian dishes is ‘’Bandeja Paisa’’ and in Cairns the most popular food is BBQ. In Medellin the population in general prefer homemade rather than the fast food.
