How has Cairns changed lives?

Miguel and Alena’s story starts here, when they meet in the school. Now they can tell many stories since they arrived in Cairns. First of all they have to tell you something about their roots. Alena is from the Czech Republic and Miguel is from Colombia. It is crazy because she has totally different traditions than he does. On top of that, what is very important, Alena is 31 years old while Miguel is only 21, something that can influence their hobbies or future plans.

To them, the first moment when they met, was so extremely funny. Alena thought that Miguel was a cocky boy… but with time she changed her opinion and now they can talk about different topics. And when Miguel met Alena, he thought she was such a strict and angry girl because she always looked at him with a bad look on her face but… now he really appreciates her company and spending good moments in one class with her. They met in an intermediate class and have been improving their English together, so now they can hold more fluent conversations than 2 months ago.

Furthermore, they are enjoying the kind of life they have gotten here, such as independence, work experiences, and multicultural encounters. To Miguel his life now is totally different since he lives by himself, and Alena’s is almost the same, however she got married one month ago and now lives with her husband, but it is still totally different than her life in the Czech Republic. However, not all things are good or exciting and sometimes the life in Cairns isn’t perfect. For example, it was difficult for Miguel to find a job when he first came here as his level of English was very low. Now it’s much better and he can get good jobs. Alena too finds her Australian life not easy because thinking and time-planning in Australia is so different from Europe for example buses don’t run on time.

Although life in Cairns is so exiting and Miguel and Alena have had many things to do, they never had a close shave. This type of situation is normal to Miguel who has had many accidents in his life. In addition, he has enjoyed his many outing around Cairns. He has visited many waterfalls and even jumped from 20 meters. Alena is so courageous; she tried bungee jumping from 50 meters in a rainforest.

To finish, you can ask them about some recommendations for stuff to do in Cairns and Australia. Miguel might tell you that you should visit many beaches and try jump from waterfalls, but maybe if you ask Alena, her answer will be, more lovely, like “Look for your real love” .

But you definitely have come to Australia!
